let pharcyde freak the funk
time for a bit of hiphop. this la troupe are a real treat for everyone. unlike most hip hops groups at the time such as nwa, who were aggresive and forceful, pharcyde put forward more intricate raps and a fun time. their debut album "a bizzare ride II" was a chage to current scene and was highly acclaimed and noted as one of the most influential albums of hip hop. with its playful, bouncy beats and jazzy beats it was a refreshing alternative to the gansta rap which dominated at the time. the song im putting up is from their second album "labincalifornia" called "drop". its one of favourite songs and beats classics such as "passing me by" not just for its fast pace beat but because of its incredible vide(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=co3qMdkucM0&feature=channel)

everyday good with afro-german patrice
reggae. the harmonies within the genre are often simply created by basic chord structures, combined with the jamaican dialect vocals create such hypnotic and incredible music. patrice is an afro-german artist whose style is not conventional to reggae but see's an eclectic mix with overtones of ska and pop in his most popular album "nile". his sound is very striking and it is his eclectism that puts his music on the blog.
the song i chose is "everyday good". with a heavy pounding turtle bay bassline, this tune lifts up my day because 'is good for being alive'.
enjoy.

big bill broonzy is the king of blues
big bill broonzy is the king of blues.
born before the start of 20th century this arkansas born musician played music from an early age. when he was 10 he put together a home made fiddle using a cigar box and jammed folk songs with his uncle. he then moved to chicago in 1924 learning to play the guitar evetually being signed by paramount records releasing his first record "big bill's blues". record sales were poor until he signed with vocalion records and eventually mercury records.
with over 300 records to his name broonzy is a blues legend.
although his most popular song is probably "key to the higway", it is not the one i like the most. "black, brown or white" was introduced to my by my dad a couple years back and its the simple guitar chords with satirical lyrics make it my favourite.
enjoy.
